Rachel Bancroft is an artist, calligrapher, graphic designer and ink maker. She first became interested in calligraphy and lettering as a 5th grader. She spent hours addressing envelopes with fancy letters to pen pals and cutting out cool fonts from magazines. She continued her study of art, lettering and graphic design in high school and college. She earned a B.A. in Design from Brigham Young University, where she focused on graphic design and communications, subsequently working in those fields for six years. Her interest in calligraphy was renewed in 2006 when she took a class from Colleen Cavin in Portland and became a member of the Portland Society for Calligraphy.

The concepts for her pieces develop as she plays with natural and synthetic inks, acrylics, watercolor, gouache and various art techniques. The artwork now in the shop focuses on her love of nature and protecting the earth. She is currently working on new pieces about spirituality, faith transition and grief.
